Oh boy, what a ride. The birth did not go as planned. My blood pressure skyrocketed, so they put me on Magnesium during the induction process. The thing is, Magnesium is also used to prevent premature birth, so basically it counteracted all of the induction meds, rendering them useless. So after 40 hours of making no progress, I decided to have a c-section. I figured that if we kept pumping me full of meds, I would end up putting the baby in distress and needing an emergency c-section anyway.
So then they found a golf ball sized cyst on my left ovary while they had me open. Thankfully it came back from analysis as benign.
Kiernan Rhys was born at 10:40 am on May 12th. He weighed 10 lbs 2 oz at birth. (Yeah... that's two weeks early too....) He was 20.25 inches long and has been a wonderful baby so far. He cries when he needs something, but as soon as I meet his need, he stops. He sleeps really well, eats really well, though the doctor is a bit concerned because he's lost just over 10 percent of his birth weight. So I've been supplementing the breast feedings with a little bit of formula and take him in for weight checks every other day. Personally, I think he was so heavy at birth because of fluid retention related to my blood pressure issues. I think he's moving along just right.
The family is adjusting well. Gwen and Morgan love their little brother and Mark is just fantastic as a new daddy. We moved to a new house about a week before Kiernan was born, so we're still living surrounded by unpacked boxes. I'm waiting until I heal a bit more before I tackle unpacking. We're so lucky that Mark is able to work from home now. It makes things so much easier to know that I'm not alone in the house as I'm dealing with a newborn.
I was able to go off my bipolar meds entirely during the pregnancy, and so far, I haven't had any symptoms. (crosses fingers that it continues)
Anyway, there's my update. I've been away from lj for too long and I miss it, but I'm hoping that my writer's block will let up soon and I'll get back to writing in the near future.

Congrats on new baby and new home!
