Fic Recs!!!
I have more fic recs to share this week. Five of them. Give them a read, seriously! I am blown away on a regular basis at all the talent that exists in our fandom.
1. Never Fall Apart
Title: Never Fall Apart
Author:
writcraft
Pairing: Ginny Weasley/Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley/Blaise Zabini, implied Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Prompt: #56 Blaise/Ginny - It's just an affair for her and he'd never let her know that it's more than that to him.
Content Information/Warnings: Consensual Infidelity, Angst
Summary: The idea of having an open relationship seems like a good idea until they stop being open with one another.
Why I loved it: It's just outstanding how she explores the real heart ache that can happen when you try to do things with "no strings". I adore this fic and the relationship that Ginny and Harry have with each other, how they are very much in love, enough to accept looking for outside help to stay together, but sometimes when people agree to "not ask questions", ties form despite our best efforts. Give it a read. It's brilliant!
2. Possibly, Maybe
or on Ao3
Title: Possibly, Maybe
Author:
curlee_cue
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Harry/Scorpius
Summary: A hand carefully brushed Scorpius’ hair out of his eyes and turned his head to face his rescuer. And of course, who else would it be, but Harry Potter? Once just an abstract legend, now his very own personal saviour.
Warnings:Object Insertion, Age Disparity (15/40 and up), Exhibitionism, Brief Dirty Talk and Food Play (not Scorpius/Harry), and if I’ve forgotten anything else, please let me know!
Word Count: 72k+
Author's Notes:
I wrote this story because I’ve noticed that a lot of chapter-length Harry/Scorpius fics tend to be Harry-centric, focusing on Harry’s guilt about feeling sexual attraction to someone half his age. In this story, I wanted to focus on Scorpius in order to explore the other side of such a relationship. (After all, he wants it just as much as Harry!) I hope I’ve done a decent job.
Why I loved it: OMG!!! This fic! It takes my breath away how beautiful it is. I've never read a more realistic cross-gen fic ever and the fact that the UST builds over years and years (over 72k words) makes it that much more ... just guh! This author is a new favorite of mine. Her word crafting is perfect and characterizations are spot on! I really encourage you to give this fic a shot.
3. Watching for a Sign
Author:
bsmog
Title: Watching for a Sign
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Warnings: Dual POV. Possibly a bit of clichéd bonding kind of thing.
Draco tries to cover the Mark, but the results aren’t quite what he’d hoped. Or, perhaps at the end of the day, they’re more like what he and Harry both hoped after all.
Word Count: 18,703
Why I loved it: This fic is a remix that is based off of a stunning piece of fan art. Visit the link to see which one. The fic is lovely. I adore 8th year and forced bonding, and even though it's not a new concept to fanfic, the method she uses is fresh. There is angst and feels and UST and sweetness all through the fic. Draco has a tattoo and Harry has to sneak a peek.
4. A Portrait of the Artist Undone
Title: A Portrait of the Artist Undone
Author/Artist:
mypetelephant
Adapted from: The Picture of Dorian Gray
Pairing: Harry/Draco, Theo/Draco, Harry/Theo…but never quite Harry/Draco/Theo. Mentions of Draco/Astoria
Word Count: 3800
Rating: NC-17
Summary: “To influence a person is to give him one's own soul.”—The Picture of Dorian Gray
Why I loved it: Oh my goodness. This fic. It's stunning. The author has captured the essence of the original (as this was written for the bottom!draco fest with the theme Adaptations). Draco is Dorian Gray and Harry is the artist. It's all told from Theo's perspective and he plays the real Slytherin behind the story. Very much like a puppet master. Read it. It's dark, there is character death, but it's brilliant!
5. Only For the Lucky
Title: Only For The Lucky
Author:
sunseticmonster
Word Count: 63,459
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Things seem to be going well for Draco Malfoy after the war. He's working as a professor at Hogwarts and makes the papers all the time for his charitable contribution to Muggle causes. But when Malfoy is rushed into St Mungos hospital for a psychotic break, Healer Harry Potter realizes that Malfoy's success is not all what it seems and sometimes luck can have more than one meaning.
Why I loved it: This fic only posted yesterday and I put it in my bookmarks after I saw how big it was to read when I had time. Then I couldn't write, so I started reading... and kept reading (ALL night) until I was done. It is brilliant. I don't know that I would actually consider it NC-17, more like a hard R. The author handles the Patient/Healer issue perfectly and keeps the boys in character in a very believable way. The plot is driven and well thought out, the pacing is just right and in the end everything falls into place (though not too perfectly) because it's just not Drarry if there isn't some bickering. There is a minor character death and it does deal with the topic of drug addiction.
