The Challenge: use 'in the land of a thousand guilts'

Homeless

How did I come to be here;
here in the land of a thousand guilts?
I see you on the street
and walk on by.

What do I have to give?
What do we all have to say?
We feel the pull of your pleading eyes
and ashamed, we walk on by.

I never even knew your name.
When you spoke to me, I couldn't hear your voice,
for I am living in the land of a thousand guilts
and despite the pull, I walk on by.

thank you for commenting. It is hard to witness though...even within myself.

This was so powerful and it hit home. I was sobbing. With us fighting eviction (were a month behind in our rent) I saw me and Tanya in this poem not as the passer by but as one of the homless faceless forgotten

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. I'll be thinking warm fuzzies for you. But you'll never be a forgotten face. Too many people love you, and as long as you have each other, you and Tanya will never be alone. :)
